ACC Certifies First Hatcheries
At SyAqua-Mexico

SyAqua-Mexico recently obtained Best Aquaculture Practices certification shortly after hatchery standards were issued by the Global Aquaculture Alliance and licensed by ACC. The certification was for three shrimp hatcheries managed by Lorenzo Juarez near Mazatlan, Sinaloa, and Bahia Kino, Sonora. Inspector Eric Pinon performed the site inspections.

Since SyAqua-Mexico started operations in 2002 with the purchase of some of the assets of Super Shrimp, it has established itself as a leader in the Mexican postlarval market. In 2004, it had approximately 20% market share and sales of 1.3 billion shrimp postlarvae.

SyAqua also operates a Genetic Nuceus near Mazatlan, where selection activities are supported by SyAqua-USA's quantitative and molecular certification worldwide. For 2005, SyAqua-Mexico has announced the production of its first genetically improved strain of shrimp, selected specially for the needs of Mexican farmers.

Shrimp Facility a great asset to the region - Wei Yuaang Aquatic Group

A shrimp breeding facility in Franklin that would grow saltwater shrimp for area farmers would economically benefit those already raising the freshwater species.
The company, Sygen, chose the spot for its SyAqua research work because it’s so far from an ocean, which can sometimes be breeding grounds for illnesses that affect shrimp.
The program received $2.8 million in the state budget to help develop the saltwater shrimp breeding in our state.
Three universities in the state, including Western Kentucky University, are part of this biotechnology program. ... More
